Water based deck stains
Water based deck stain is a water soluble solution that contains a very low amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC). It has a very “thin” paint formula which is composed of pigment and acrylic.
The benefit of using a water based deck stain is that it is environmentally friendly. It also minimizes the growth of mildew and mold on the wood. Should you decide to restore your deck which is coated by a water based stain, cleaning wouldn’t be a problem because it can be easily removed by water and soap. The only problem in using this kind of stain is that it does not penetrate well on the wood.
- Deck RestoreTM
Deck RestoreTM is one of the most popular water based deck stains because it provides a durable coating and is designed to mask the deck board which gives it better protection from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and moisture. However, if you want to get this protection, you need to apply two coatings of deck restore. Doing this will not consume most of your time because deck restore dries up quickly. Once you’ve finished applying the first coat, you just need to wait for three to six hours before applying the second coating.
Deck RestoreTM is manufactured by Synta Corporation; a company that manufactures and distributes deck restore products. It sells deck restore in one gallon containers or five gallon containers and the price per gallon ranges from 70 to 100 dollars. A gallon of this product can cover approximately 100 square feet of wood.
As mentioned earlier, water based deck stains do not penetrate well on wood. With deck restore, this is not going to be a problem because it has been proven that this stain penetrates well on wood. Despite this fact, you can still remove it with the use of water and soap. Our article about Rust-Oleum Deck Restore goes more in depth about this products.
- Defy Extreme Wood Stain
Defy Extreme Wood Stain is another brand of water based deck stain that is getting great reviews and feedbacks from experts. It also contains synthetic epoxy resins which harden and solidify the pores of the wood found below its surface.
To get maximum protection, two coatings of defy extreme wood stain must be applied on the wood. Since the stain dries very quickly, you can apply the second coating two to four hours after applying the first coating. Removing the coatings is also as fast and easy as applying them because you can clean the stain with the use of water and soap.
Defy Extreme Wood Stain can be bought in one gallon containers or five gallon containers. A gallon of defy extreme stain can cover 100 to 150 square feet. And although the product is receiving great reviews from experts, it remains to be very affordable as it only costs around 40 to 70 dollars per gallon.
